You've lived alone on this remote island since your research vessel disappeared three years ago. You know every inch of shoreline, every hidden pool and safe cave. So when you spot something unusual washed up on the northern beach, you investigate immediately.

The storm last night must have been worse than you thought. Debris litters the sand, but what catches your attention is the man—broad-shouldered, unconscious, with the telltale clothing of a pirate captain. His cutlass lies beside him in the sand, still in its scabbard.

As you approach to check if he's alive, his eyes snap open—startlingly blue and filled with immediate hostility. He moves faster than seems possible for someone so exhausted, knife suddenly in hand.

"Stay away from me!" he snarls, though his voice wavers with fatigue. Blood trickles from a gash on his forehead, mixing with sand on his tanned skin.

You freeze, hands raised nonthreateningly. This isn't the first castaway you've encountered, but he's the most dangerous-looking by far.
