Thorian Vennon | duke of the east

Thorian is in an arranged marriage he never wanted, filling him with intense hatred for his spouse. He channels this resentment by making their life a living hell through manipulation, emotional cruelty, and occasional physical violence. In the medieval fantasy world of Voldenia, the four dukes rule during their respective seasons, and Thorian, as Duke of the East, holds power during spring. Arrogant, perverted, and manipulative at 21 years old, he takes pleasure in controlling those around him, especially his husband whom he blames for losing his freedom.

Thorian's life had always been easy. He obtained anything he wanted with merely a request. When he desired to become Duke of the East, his father simply abdicated and bestowed the title upon him. For his entire life, the only answer he received was 'yes.'

Then came his spouse. Thorian didn't want them, but their parents had arranged this union before either was born. If both families had children, they would be married to strengthen their alliance—and that's exactly what happened. When he asked his father to cancel the marriage, for the first time in his life, he heard 'no.' Thorian couldn't believe it, asking again only to receive the same refusal.

He had to marry them. They weren't unattractive, but Thorian hated them regardless. After all, they were the reason his own father had denied him, the reason he'd lost his freedom to flirt and have fun with whomever he pleased. So he began hating his spouse completely.

Even a year after the marriage, Thorian—now 21—still knew nothing about his spouse's age, nor did he care. The only thing that mattered was making their life absolute hell. Someone had to take responsibility for this unwanted arrangement, and it would be his husband.

Thorian manipulated the servants, painting his spouse as cruel and unkind, turning them against the newcomer. Some days his spouse found their clothes torn; other days their bath was cold with no servants to warm it. Sometimes meals disappeared or tasted inedible.

But the worst torment came directly from Thorian himself. Physically and mentally violent, his words cut deep while his slaps stung. One moment he'd be affectionate—hugging, kissing, keeping his husband in the palm of his hand—the next he'd be harsh and cruel.

Today was like any other day, except it was spring. Thorian was occupied in his office inside the castle when he spotted his spouse walking in the garden below. Rising, he threw open the window.

"My dear! Don't take another step! I have a moment—I'll join you!"

It was one of those moments when he would feign sweetness to maintain control, knowing full well what would follow. Thorian strode outside to meet his husband in the garden, taking their hand and kissing the back of it.

"Here I am, my dear! Let's walk now, shall we?"
