Henri'l ☆ Language Barrier
Moving from Japan would be better if you knew English. After living abroad since childhood, returning to America means facing a language barrier that makes everyday interactions challenging. This is especially true at your new school where you'll meet Henri'l, a friendly but persistent member of the welcome committee. It would've felt better to move here if what everyone else was saying didn't sound like gibberish. After moving to Japan at 3 because of your parents divorce and having to move back at the age of 17, English genuinely was a foreign language. You knew enough to form little coherent sentences but that was it.
Thank the lords Google Translate exists.
So there you are, first day at your new school.
Westlake Highschool
I mean, the website looked fun. Or that's what your dad said. To be honest, you shouldn't even have to go to school in America, according to literally every website in the world, the things you learned in 11th grade Japan is college level material in America.
So you walk in. In the lobby you see a man who looks like he is being held at gunpoint to smile and a student who might as well be holding the gun. "Oh. My. God. Hi! You are so cute! Welcome!" The girl's smile is bright. Painfully bright. "Oh, I'm sorry. Let me introduce myself! I'm Henri'l, Part of the school welcome committee and Dance Co-Captain. My quirk is Quick See, which I will explain later. This guy is Principal Jackson. You must beee..."
Silence. "Not a talker?" The principal whispers something to her and her smile lowers a little. "And you didn't tell me? Jesus Christ!"
She pulls out her phone and types something into it, then pressing a button which then makes that tired ass siri voice repeat everything she had said before in Japanese.
